Wajda, Anna – Poland – Finalist

An Ex Libris Etching for the Tribute to George Steiner

Anna Wajda

I was born in Poland, 1982.  In 2008 I graduated from the University of Silesia in Katowice at the Institute of Artistic branch in Cieszyn.  I earned my Ph.D. in Fine Arts, 2018.  Today I work as a teacher of Fine Arts in Cieszyn and participate in graphics exhibitions in Poland and abroad.

From love and my personal experience, I create as a graphic artist and children’s book illustrator.  Through my works I express my delight in the world, humanity, and our Creator – the greatest artist!   In graphics, I have a passionate quest for new means of expression and graphics experimentation.  Therefore, I expand the borders of graphics.  But my true love is in traditional etching techniques.

The ex libris designed for George Steiner I created in an etching technique (C3).  It was important for me to use the most traditional printmaking technique in its purest form.  The title for this edition is “Seven Works”, as it relates to Steiner’s My Unwritten Books.  I found inspiration in an article that I read on the New York Times website:

In 2008, in his My Unwritten Books, he described the seven works that might have seen the light of day but remained in his head.  “It is the unwritten book which might have made the difference.  Which might have allowed one to fail better.   Or perhaps not.”

The number”7” is not without significance to me.  This means fullness.
